Mac (and Other) Dupes

My goal wasn't to find dupes that swatched out perfectly identically.  I was trying to find lipsticks that looked the same on the lips.  I found a few that I thought fit the ticket and also added in a couple of bonus looks.

MAYBELLINE SUGAR CHIC AND MAC LONG LEGGED AND FABULOUS

These are identical in every way.  The Maybelline one might be a bit shinier but the color is the same.  This Mac happens to be limited edition which makes the fact that these are dupes, that much greater.  I believe this Maybelline shade is new, I know that Maybelline is doing something with their lipsticks which I plan on talking about later this week.

MAYBELLINE PETAL PINK AND MAC SAINT GERMAIN
(PLUS LIME CRIME GREAT PINK PLANET)

The Mac and Maybelline lipsticks aren't identical in the swatches but they are identical with how they look on the lips.  The Lime Crime and Maybelline ones are identical in the swatches.  I noticed immediately after I got Petal Pink that it was identical to a favorite of mine, Saint Germain.  If you look closely, you can see they aren't exactly 100% identical on the lips, but you have to really look hard.  The Saint Germain is a little more pink while the Maybelline one has a slight peachy undertone.  It's really not that noticeable.

MAYBELLINE PERPETUAL PEONY AND MAC PERSONAL PICK

These aren't identical but I feel like they do the exact same thing on the lips.  The Maybelline one is a little bit pinker which I feel like shows up more with the flash of the camera than it does in real life.

MAYBELLINE ELECTRIC PINK AND MAC CANDY YUM-YUM

Mac Candy Yum-Yum and Maybelline Electric Pink
I hate this particular shade of pink on me.  The lady at the Mac counter pretty much forced me to buy Candy Yum-Yum instead of letting me get the shade I wanted because the shade I wanted, "Didn't go with my eye color."  I bought Electric Pink specifically for this blog.  Now I have two lipsticks in a shade I don't like wearing that are exactly the same.

MAYBELLINE VIBRANT VIOLET AND MAC MEN LOVE MYSTERY
(MAC EVENING RENDEZVOUS)

Mac Men Love Mystery and Maybelline Vibrant Violet don't look that similar in the swatch but are identical on the lips.  I did a half and half lip swatch, but it looked very odd on the lips, so I didn't use it.  These three colors are all slightly different, but they aren't going to look that different on the lips.

MAYBELLINE RAVISHING ROSE AND MAC STEADY GOING

Left:  Maybelline Ravishing Rose
Right:  Mac Steady Going

These colors are almost exactly the same and even on the lips you can notice a slight difference.  Ravishing Rose is a little bit darker and a little bit shinier.  Steady Going is a Retro Matte which means it's a dryer formula, not something that everyone can wear, but personally I like it better.

MAYBELLINE PINK CHARGE AND BUXOM WICKED PINK

I know these aren't really dupes, they aren't all that similar but they have a similar feel to them.  When I say feel, I don't really mean the texture.  I got these around the same time and I always had a hard time telling them apart, just looking at the color.  They are both beautiful neon type pinks.

MAYBELLINE MESMERIZING MAGENTA PLUS BITE OPAL AND MAC SHOW ORCHID

Mac Show Orchid and Maybelline Mesmerizing Magenta and Bite Opal
I hate that you can't really tell this on camera but Mac Show Orchid and a mixture of Maybelline Mesmerizing Magenta and Bite Opal are exact dupes for one another.  The Mac one is less expensive but if you already have the others than you don't really need both.  Mesmerizing Magenta doesn't really swatch well but is easier to apply to the lips.

I plan on talking about Bite Opal in tomorrow's article, so check back in to see more mixtures of Bite Opal with other lipsticks.
